MAIK has been involved in many programmes during the 100 years of is existence. It has taken significant strides in providing funding for and supporting programmes that have a direct impact on educating, training, and empowering the Kholvadian youth.
An examination of the MAIK founding documents of 1895 and the Trust documents of 1905 and 1914 shows a strong emphasis on providing for the education of the youth with no limitations on subjects, or duration or levels of study, and makes no distinction between males and females. This very open ended approach was meant to encourage education and training for all Kholvadians. One clear objective was to empower the community for a better future.
The 1937 MAIK Balance sheets and reports show an entry on the Income and Expenditure accounts of an amount of 267 pounds sterling spent on scholarships and 494 pounds sterling on the Kholvad Hostel; these represent over 33% of the total budget of just over 1400 pounds sterling.
The Annual General Report of 1942 stated the following: “This new undertaking will, it is confidently expected, prove to be a foundation which will help to water and give nourishment to the small plant of education which has taken roots in the soil of Kholvad. Once the plant has grown into a full-grown tree, it will not limit its usefulness to one section of the people alone but will afford shade and comfort to all those who desire to take umbrage from the boiling sun of illiteracy and ignorance
